2 People, Different Paces began its life as Subtle Noise No. 4; an instrumental which I developed in 1980 originally (I played it for John Matthew the Saturday morning of that year’s Beatlefest, whilst sitting in the center of an immaculate oriental carpet; hence his claim “See, that’s why you’re a great guitarist… “) but I got the most mileage out if in October ’82 when I was trying to win over Tamara Vali, and somehow believed that dedicating a new version of this piece to her and playing it for her might do the trick. I had this plan of bringing my guitar to school and serenading her. What an imagination..!
