A bouncy song from May ’89. It came out around the same time as The Cure’s Fascination Street, but I wanted something more whimsical, like Six Different Ways.
In some ways, it was about M. being this special, radiant creature, who also came across sometimes like a machine gun.
Around this time, I was becoming very confident about my ability to write “pervasive melodies” and arrangements, and it was all beginning to trip off the tongue a little too easily…
It remains my favorite song from the period, due to the silliness of the arrangement, although my ensuing disillusionment with the music industry meant it also marked the ending of a generation for my aspirations as a “pop” songwriter.
