Description
I’ve always heard a high tenor voice singing a melodic lead over the top of this (perhaps in the style that Belgian composer Wim Mertens does so well)… It’s always crossed (a bit too dangerously) into Supertramp-kind of territory, with the easy transitions between major and minor 7ths in a few of the chord changes. Then again, that was what I had just come from listening to (on a mixtape in the car, for weeks) when I first wrote this, in August of 1989.
This was one of the first works I wrote after Marie got on a plane and flew home to Brussels. At that moment, I embarked on the most significant new shift in my compositional studies, making the piano my instrument of choice and trying to create a much larger body of work that would, imminently, become the first seeds of Day For Night.
