Soon after Another Life, Doug Green and I went back into my home studio and wrote and recorded Time Out, which came off as a very electronic piece, but with a hookier chorus. There were more samples and it was a better-informed collaborative process as we had a common musical vocabulary to draw upon by this time. I remember the prime synth line being sung to me by Douglas and I did my best to recreate this to help build the rest of the track around it. I took particular pleasure in the fact that it became a duet; I loved singing and therefore got to do a vocal counterpoint in the chorus section against Doug’s vocal, which made it feel like a proper collaboration on multiple musical levels.
