The Maltese Guy was Matt’s final 290, and he gave me the opportunity to score the entire film. It was the story of a Bogart enthusiast who finds his ordinary life interrupted by a violent incident forcing him to take action. Richard Hatem played The Guy, and was perfect for the part. My Maltese Guy theme was later referred to as “Rich’s Theme” and has been a source of continued amusement for all of us. It was my first classically inspired theme.
