This track is the most-covered of all, across the annals of field and dictaphone recordings in my personal archive.
It began as a stoner groove in 1997 and was nothing much more. And then, in front of the television, the lightbulb went “CLICK” and it occurred to me, in this massive, self-searching moment, what I had actually been doing.
I had a sort of “complex” about not being a technically-accomplished guitarist at any point in my life until then, but this was the piece that gave me the confidence to express what I actually do — at least in my head — every time I pick up a guitar.
The toughest thing about this piece was sorting through approximately 50 great mixes, trying to pick out the best bits to include in this “Groove” symphony.
